Flying Eagles of Nigeria may face the hosts, Argentina or USA in the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The two times FIFA U20 World Cup finalists, Nigeria were group D table toppers before kick off of the final group game following their victories in their first two matches to qualify for the knock-out stages but their 0-2 loss to Brazil and Italy 3-0 victory over Dominican Republic on Saturday pushed the African country to 3rd on the log.
According to the fixture, Group A winners will face the best loser (3rd placed team) from group C, D and E. Also, group B winners (USA) will face 3rd placed team from group A and D.
In group C, the 3rd placed team may not qualify as best losers as both Senegal and Israel have one point each with one game to play. However, if Israel or Senegal make it to the knock-out stage, Nigeria will not play against Argentina but USA in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Tunisia who played two games have 3 points and are 3rd in group E with their last group match versus Uruguay who are second with three points.
As at the time of filing this report, only Nigeria, New Zealand, Tunisia and Slovakia are the four selected best losers.
Group A table toppers, Argentina defeated Uzbekistan, New Zealand and Guatemala to earn maximum 9 points from the three group games.
The round of 16 matches will hold on 30th and 31st May, 2023.
