Falconets Eye Qualification As Adukwu Plots Malawi Victory

Head coach Moses Adukwu says Nigeria’s Nigeria women's national under-20 football team will be prepared to capitalise on attacking spaces when they face Malawi women's national under-20 football team in the second leg of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Falconets hold a first-leg advantage after securing victory through goals from Ifeanyi Kindness and an own goal, leaving Nigeria in a strong position ahead of the decisive return fixture in Lilongwe.

Despite the positive result, Adukwu insisted his side remains fully focused on completing the job away from home.

“I’m not disappointed because the important thing is getting the result,” Adukwu said. “In football, you can create many chances and not convert them, but we still achieved our objective.”

The coach believes Malawi’s expected attacking approach in the second leg could create more opportunities for Nigeria on the counterattack.

“They were defensive, especially in the first half of the first leg, but I expect them to come out more at home,” he said. “That will create opportunities for us, and I believe we will score first.”

Adukwu also stressed the importance of maintaining concentration despite the advantage already secured.

“I’m not celebrating anything yet because qualification has not been achieved,” he added. “My message to the players is to stay focused and finish the job in Malawi.”

The Falconets coach pointed to Nigeria’s recent performances in previous qualifying rounds as evidence of the team’s steady improvement.

He referenced the side’s progression against Rwanda and Senegal, noting that the team has consistently grown stronger as each tie advances.

“With every match, the team keeps improving,” Adukwu said. “I believe Malawi will not be any different.”

The second leg is scheduled to take place in Lilongwe on May 9, with Nigeria aiming to secure passage to the next stage of the qualification campaign.
