Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, stepped up their preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in a friendly on Friday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The encounter, played at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, Poland, provided Coach Moses Aduku’s side with a valuable test ahead of their opening match at the tournament.
Mary Mamudu scored the decisive goal in first-half stoppage time to hand the Falconets victory and provide a timely boost to the team’s confidence and morale before the World Cup campaign.
The Falconets, two-time runners-up at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, will have another opportunity to fine-tune their preparations when they face the Republic of Korea in their final warm-up match on Tuesday, September 1.
That fixture will be played at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium in Poland.
Nigeria will begin their World Cup campaign against Spain on Monday, September 7, before facing China three days later on September 10.
The Falconets will round off their group-stage fixtures against New Caledonia on September 13.
With the tournament fast approaching, the victory over Poland gives Nigeria another positive result as Aduku continues to shape his squad for a challenging World Cup campaign.
