Falconets Secure First-Leg Advantage Over Malawi in U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, recorded a 2-0 victory over Malawi on Saturday in the first leg of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie at the Remo Stars Stadium, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The hosts took the lead through an own goal before Kindness Ifeanyi doubled Nigeria’s advantage later in the match, putting the Falconets in a strong position ahead of the return leg.

Nigeria, a consistent presence at every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since its inception, will carry a two-goal cushion into the second leg in Malawi.

The Falconets advanced to this stage after defeating Senegal 3-1 on aggregate in the previous round, while Malawi progressed with a commanding 6-2 aggregate victory over Guinea-Bissau.

The winner of the two-legged tie will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in Poland in September.

The decisive second leg is set for May 9, 2026, at the Bingu National Stadium, where the aggregate winner will book a place at the global tournament.
