Falconets Set for Crucial World Cup Qualifier, Move Camp To Face Malawi In Ikenne

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have wrapped up a three-week intensive training camp in Abuja as they intensify preparations for their decisive qualifier against Malawi in the race for a place at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The team is expected to arrive in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, on Sunday ahead of the first leg of the final qualifying round, scheduled for Saturday, May 2. The Abuja camp focused on building match fitness, tactical discipline, and team cohesion, with players undergoing demanding training sessions designed to fine-tune performance.

Head coach Moses Aduku expressed optimism about the squad’s readiness, highlighting the players’ commitment during the training period. He noted that the team had made significant progress in key areas, including tactical organization and physical conditioning, and voiced confidence in their ability to deliver a strong performance.

Team captain Joy Igbokwe echoed the coach’s sentiments, emphasizing the players’ focus and determination ahead of the encounter. She also called on Nigerians to support the team as they aim to secure a positive result in the first leg.

The Falconets are targeting a convincing home performance as they seek qualification for the tournament, scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5 to 26. Nigeria holds an impressive record in the competition, having participated in every edition since its inception 24 years ago.
