Fans Urge IMC To Halt Last Group Games Manipulation
By Niyi Busari
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) followers have charged the Interim Management Company under the leadership of Gbenga Elegbeleye to be on high alert as a few desperate clubs are ready to manipulate the final results of the season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Rivers United are poised to play more matches in the run-in to the end of the regular season of the 2022/23 abridged season, due to their accumulated outstanding fixtures as a result of their involvement in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
As a result, the last matches of Group B on Matchday 18 would be completed simultaneously on a date to be announced while matches of Group A sides will be played as scheduled in the calendar.
BSNSports in a random sampling conducted online, many fans are appealing to the IMC not to relax on its Zero Tolerance as regards result manipulation by desperate clubs.
Manipulation of results in the last match of the season may send the achievements of IMC to the mud, despite earning football fans praises across the world following their performance since the beginning of the season.
It may lead to getting unworthy champions and representatives at the CAF Clubs competitions. And when that happens, the team will be disgraced out of the competition and a possible loss of a slot too.
But if we have a team that fought for the title and earn their position based on merit, we will witness the return of Nigeria honours at the continent.
Meanwhile, the abridged NPFL season will end on May 14, the Interim Management Committee has proposed May 20 to 28 for the super-six playoffs in Lagos which will produce the league champions and three continental representatives.
