Favour Ofili Claims Third In Photo-finish At Lausanne Diamond League
Sampson Adedeji
Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili finished third in the women’s 200m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Friday, clocking 22.32 seconds in a dramatic photo-finish, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Ofili recorded the same time as Britain’s Amy Hunt, but the Briton was awarded second place after officials separated the pair by just three-thousandths of a second.
American Kayla White took the victory in 22.18 seconds, securing her first career Diamond League win.
The race, held at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise as part of Athletissima, also saw five-time Olympic medallist Shericka Jackson of Jamaica pull up mid-race with a hamstring injury and fail to finish.
Ofili’s podium finish continues her strong form on the Diamond League circuit this season.
The 23-year-old Nigerian national record holder remains one of Africa’s leading prospects in the sprints as the campaign builds toward major championships.
