Federation Cup: Edo Queens, Kada Queens Battle In Huge Showdown In Abuja

Ibrahim Lateef

Edo Queens Football Club of Benin will be playing against Kada Queens FC, a championship side from Kaduna State, in the Round of 32 of the Women's category of the Federation Cup. The match is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the Area 3 football field in Abuja, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

Edo Queens who have in the last three editions reached the semifinals, are not going to underestimate the Kaduna ladies despite being a championship side. The highly rated Godwin Obaseki girls who had a disappointing campaign during last year's FA Cup semifinal game against the reigning champions Bayelsa Queens FC played in Awka wouldn't want to take chances, they have no reasons not to shine in this year's edition following the huge boost from Edo State government.

As they battle the championship side from Kaduna on Wednesday, they are favourites to progress to the next stage where they will meet one of the NWFL giants in the round of 16 to determine whether they can keep the FA cCupcontention light on or not.

It is also important to note that the Ancient City Queens will be among the six NWFL premiership giants that will compete for honours in the prestigious Super sSixchampionship to determine who wins the 2023/24 NWFL league season and finally represent Nigeria at the continental level.

In the history of the Nigerian  Federation Cup, carded teams have always sprung surprises. Edo Queens under coach Rolanson Odeh, during the 2nd edition of the Sheroes Cup Women's Pre-season tournament organized by Ratel Sports Development Foundation RSDF, in Abuja, Edo Queens thrashed Kada Queens 5-0, but that was in the formative years of Kada Queens. Right now they are strong in transition, they can play in different ways and are very dangerous. So Edo Queens need to focus, and shouldn't underrate them because for them to have qualified from their zone means that they are no longer rookies in the game.

Having been empowered heavily by the management to win laurels for the State, Edo Queens fans across the country expect top- flight display of football in these two competitions, the FA Cup, the Super Six and finally a trophy as a parting gift to the Executive Governor, the Sports Commission boss, and all Edolites for their massive supports.
