Federations' Board Dissolution Pending as NSC Awaits NOC Consultations, Says Shehu Dikko
By Niyi Busari
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko, has stated that no final decision has been made regarding the dissolution of the boards of national sports federations ahead of their forthcoming elective congresses, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
In an exclusive interview with BSN Sports at ANOCA Headquarters in Abuja, Dikko explained that the decision will depend on the outcome of ongoing consultations between the sports federations and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
“For now, no decision has been taken on whether or not the boards of the federations will be dissolved ahead of their elections,” Dikko said.
He added, the outcome of the consultation between the leadership of different sports federations and Nigeria Olympic Committee will influence our decision. "
Elections for 28 sports federations are scheduled to take place between June 2025 and January 2026. However, administrative preparedness remains a concern, as only 12 of these federations have constitutions approved by their respective international governing bodies—a requirement seen as crucial for ensuring transparency and compliance with global standards.
The lack of approved constitutions in the majority of federations may influence the direction of the NSC’s eventual decision on board dissolution and electoral timelines.
