Felix Nnaemeka Agu, German-born left-back of Nigerian descent and currently on the books of Werder Bremen, has been officially cleared to represent Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The confirmation comes from the German Football Federation (DFB), which clarified in a formal communication that Agu has never featured in any official competitive match—either at senior or junior level—for Germany. He is therefore eligible under FIFA rules to switch allegiance and represent Nigeria.

This development is seen as a major boost for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), particularly after Agu was named in the training squad for the Unity Cup 2025 in the United Kingdom. Initially invited for evaluation purposes, his eligibility had remained a subject of speculation.

According to the DFB, Agu’s only international appearances came in the form of two friendly matches with the Germany U21 team in 2019—games that do not cap-tie him at the international level.

With the legal and administrative path now clear, Agu is expected to bring valuable experience and depth to the Super Eagles’ defensive lineup, particularly in the full-back role. His inclusion could prove crucial as Nigeria intensifies preparations for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers beginning in September.

A versatile and technically sound defender, Agu is widely regarded for his pace, tactical intelligence, and composure on the ball—attributes that could strengthen Nigeria’s chances in their upcoming competitive fixtures.

His potential debut for the Super Eagles would mark a significant addition to Nigeria’s defensive options, and is eagerly anticipated by fans and football analysts alike.
