Final-Day Drama Beckons As Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens And Nasarawa Amazons Battle For NWFL Crown

The 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title race will be decided on the final day of the Super Six playoffs following another gripping round of fixtures in Port Harcourt, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Matchday Four delivered significant results at both ends of the standings, with Edo Queens and defending champions Bayelsa Queens recording important victories, while Abia Angels held Nasarawa Amazons to a goalless draw in a result that kept the championship contest wide open.

With only one round of matches remaining, three teams remain firmly in contention for Nigeria's most prestigious women's football title.

Defending champions Bayelsa Queens continued their resurgence with a convincing 2-0 victory over FC Robo Queens, securing consecutive wins and enhancing their chances of retaining the crown.

The Prosperity Girls made an ideal start, taking the lead after just one minute through Kindness Ifeanyi, whose early strike immediately put FC Robo Queens under pressure.

Bayelsa Queens controlled much of the contest and consistently looked the more threatening side going forward. Their dominance was eventually rewarded in the 83rd minute when substitute Ojiyovwi Kesiena marked her introduction with a goal, finding the net with her first touch to seal all three points.

The victory keeps Bayelsa Queens firmly in the title race heading into the decisive final round.

Abia Angels produced another disciplined display to earn a hard-fought goalless draw against former champions Nasarawa Amazons.

Both sides created opportunities in a closely contested encounter, but organised defending and impressive goalkeeping ensured neither team could find a breakthrough.

The defining moment came deep into stoppage time when Nasarawa Amazons were awarded a penalty that offered a chance to claim a crucial victory. However, Adaobi Okah failed to convert from the spot, allowing Abia Angels to preserve the draw and collect a valuable point.

While the result ended Abia Angels' slim title hopes, it also denied Nasarawa Amazons the opportunity to move into a commanding position in the championship race.

Edo Queens maintained their position at the summit of the standings with a crucial 2-1 victory over hosts Rivers Angels in an entertaining South-South derby.

The Benin-based side took the lead in the 39th minute through forward Precious Oscar, who continued her fine scoring form in the competition.

Rivers Angels responded strongly after the restart and levelled matters in the 72nd minute through substitute Abasiofon Uwah, setting up a tense finish.

However, Edo Queens quickly regained control, with Chioma Moses restoring their lead five minutes later. Her decisive strike ultimately proved to be the match winner as Edo Queens held on to secure maximum points.

The victory not only preserved their place at the top of the table but also put them in pole position heading into the final day.

With one round of fixtures remaining, Edo Queens lead the Super Six standings on nine points. Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons remain within striking distance on seven points apiece.

Abia Angels, who have impressed in their debut Super Six appearance, sit on five points and are mathematically out of title contention. FC Robo Queens and Rivers Angels, both on three points, can no longer challenge for the championship.

As a result, the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership title will be decided on the final day, with Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons still in contention.

The stage is now set for a thrilling finale in Port Harcourt as Nigeria's top women's teams battle for domestic supremacy.
