Five-Star Flamingos Thrash Guinea Ahead of Return Leg in Nigeria

Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, delivered a commanding performance on Saturday with a 5-0 victory over Guinea in the first leg of their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Flamingos made an explosive start, taking the lead within the opening minute through Harmony Chidi. The forward doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 13th minute with a superb strike from outside the penalty area, putting Guinea under early pressure.
Nigeria continued to dominate proceedings and extended their lead before halftime. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi added the third goal in the 37th minute, while Chidi completed her hat-trick three minutes later to hand the Flamingos a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Mary Dunstan scoring Nigeria’s fifth goal in the 56th minute to complete an emphatic victory for the visitors.
Harmony Chidi emerged as the standout performer of the match, netting three goals in the 1st, 13th and 40th minutes, while Adegbuyi and Dunstan also got on the scoresheet.
The return leg of the qualifier is scheduled to take place in Nigeria on May 30. The aggregate winner of the two-legged tie will secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
