Flamingos Fine-Tune Strategies For Guinea Ahead Of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier

 Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, continued their preparations on Thursday morning ahead of Saturday’s crucial FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying encounter against Guinea, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The highly anticipated first-leg fixture is scheduled to kick off at 4pm local time in Abidjan (5pm Nigerian time), with the Nigerian side determined to secure a strong result away from home.

The team is expected to hold its first official training session in Côte d’Ivoire later today as Head Coach Akeem Busari and his technical crew intensify tactical and fitness drills in the final phase of preparations.

Nigeria heads into the encounter in impressive form after a series of encouraging performances during camping in Abuja and Ikenne. The Flamingos recently recorded a dominant 5-0 victory over Lakeside Queens in a preparatory friendly, extending their strong run ahead of the qualifiers. 

The Nigerian side, bronze medallists at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, received a bye into the second qualifying round due to their pedigree on the continent, while Guinea advanced after defeating Niger 8-2 on aggregate in the opening round. 

Saturday’s match will be played in Abidjan after Guinea was unable to secure an approved home venue for the fixture. The return leg is scheduled for May 30 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State. 

The winner over two legs will move a step closer to qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco later this year.
