Flying Eagles: Sports Minister Rolls Out Gain of Principal's Cup

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare on Monday during the reception of the Flying Eagles at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja pointed out Onuche Ogbelu who was a member of the champions of the maiden Principals Cup in 2021 and now a member of the Flying Eagles.

BSN Sports report that, Onuche Ogbelu saw 90 minutes action for Fosla Academy in the final and won the inaugural Principal Cup in Abuja. 

Fosla Academy Karshi, Abuja on March 30th, 2021 emerged champions of the maiden National Principals’ Cup finals held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The Sani Lulu boys defeated Christ Comprehensive College, Kaduna 2-0 in an entertaining final dominated by the FCT boys.

Tukura Joel struck twice in the 23rd and 24th minutes to swing victory to his side with their opponents finding it difficult to get penetrate the Fosla defence line.

The first stanza ended 2-0 in favour of Fosla and all efforts by the Kaduna boys to come back into the game in the second half was futile as the Karishi boys ran away with the trophy


Onuche Ogbelu, a pivotal member of bronze winning Flying Eagles in the just concluded CAF U20 AFCON was one of the Fosla Academy players that won the Principal's Cup in 2021

Sunday Dare who recalled that the Fosla player was among the Flying Eagles called him out .

"There is a Secondary school student among you, Dare said pointing to the Flying Eagles.

"Yes, he is Onuche Ogbelu, some of his team mates responded chorusly.

Ogbelu stood up and after introducing himself, the Minister asked everyone to clap for him for breaking into the national team and made him proud two years after the maiden Principals Cup was held. He however said, "this is one 9f the gains of the maiden Principals Cup."
