Flying Eagles Arrive In Côte d'Ivoire, Commence Training For WAFU B U20 Championship

Nigeria's U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have commenced preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship following their arrival in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The seven-time African champions departed Abuja on Monday afternoon and arrived in the Ivorian capital later that evening. After a brief rest, the squad held its first training session, which ran from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Nigeria time), as preparations intensified for the regional tournament.

The Flying Eagles, who are the defending champions, will begin their title defence with a highly anticipated Group B clash against Ghana's Black Satellites on July 27 at the Lycée Scientifique de Yamoussoukro.

Nigeria will then face Togo's Junior Sparrow Hawks on July 30 at the same venue, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (Nigeria time).

The team's final Group B fixture will be against Burkina Faso's Young Stallions on August 2, also at the Lycée Scientifique de Yamoussoukro.

Head coach Abdul Maikaba's side travelled to Côte d'Ivoire after an intensive training camp in Abuja, where the team played nearly 20 friendly matches as part of its preparations for the championship.

The Flying Eagles will be aiming to retain their WAFU B U20 title and build momentum ahead of upcoming continental competitions.
