Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will face a formidable challenge in the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, as they are set to clash with tournament hosts Argentina on October 8, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The matchup was confirmed following Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Colombia in their final Group F match. The result ensured Nigeria’s progression to the knockout stage, with the team finishing third in the group with four points from three matches.
Nigeria's Group Stage Journey
The Flying Eagles had a shaky start to the tournament, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Norway in their opener. They bounced back with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Saudi Arabia, and secured qualification with a hard-fought draw against Colombia.
In the final group match, Colombia took the lead, but a late 86th-minute penalty calmly converted by captain Daniel Bameyi earned Nigeria a crucial point and a ticket to the next round.
Argentina in Dominant Form
Meanwhile, Argentina topped Group D with a perfect record, winning all three matches. They finished ahead of Italy (4 points) and Australia (3 points), asserting their status as one of the tournament favorites.
