Flying Eagles Camp Closes After Ghana Postpones WAFU A and B U20 Tournament

The Nigeria U20 national football team, the Flying Eagles, has officially vacated its training camp in Abuja following the indefinite postponement of the 2025 WAFU A and B U20 Championship, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

 The team ended its preparations on Tuesday, with players and officials departing the camp on Wednesday. The decision follows an official communication from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the host federation, informing all 16 participating nations of the postponement. A new date for the tournament has yet to be announced.

Originally slated to run from June 15 to 30 in Ghana, the inaugural WAFU A and B U20 Championship was intended to provide a competitive platform for youth football development in West Africa. The tournament was also seen as a vital part of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

The Flying Eagles, one of four African teams already qualified for the global tournament, had viewed the regional event as an ideal opportunity to assess and fine-tune the squad ahead of their World Cup campaign.

Officials have indicated they will await further guidance from WAFU and the GFA regarding rescheduling before setting new plans in motion.
