The Nigeria U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, will hold their first training session on Wednesday evening after their hard-fought quarterfinal victory over Senegal, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The seven-time African champions booked their place in the semifinals of the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Senegal 3-1 in a penalty shootout. The match had ended goalless after extra time, but Nigeria held their nerve from the spot to secure progression.

The victory not only ensured a place in the semifinals but also guaranteed Nigeria a spot at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

As part of their preparations for Thursday’s semifinal against South Africa, the team will undergo a recovery and tactical training session at 6:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. Nigerian time) at Ismailia, Egypt.

Their semifinal opponents, South Africa, edged past DR Congo 1-0 in their own quarterfinal fixture to set up a highly anticipated clash with the Flying Eagles.

In the other semifinal pairing, hosts Egypt will take on Morocco, also scheduled for Thursday. Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco and Egypt have qualified to represent Africa at the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
