Flying Eagles Skipper Bameyi Targets Super Eagles Debut In 2026

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles captain, Daniel Bameyi, has set his sights on breaking into the Super Eagles squad in 2026 as he looks to take on greater responsibility for the country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Bameyi, who led the Nigeria U20 side to the last FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile where they exited in the second round, believes the coming year is crucial to his development both at club and national team levels.

Speaking to Punch correspondent, the versatile defender expressed strong determination to keep improving and push for a senior national team role.

“My main goal for the coming year is growth in every area of my career. I want to keep developing, learning, and working hard so that I can reach a higher level,” he stated.

“At club level, I hope to play an even more important role in the team and contribute consistently throughout the season.”

Bameyi also revealed his ambition to represent Nigeria at the highest stage, including the Super Eagles.

“With the national team, my aim is to continue representing Nigeria with pride and determination whenever I am called upon. I also want to earn more opportunities, help the team achieve strong performances, and contribute to taking Nigerian football to greater heights,” he added.

The 20-year-old has been widely praised for his leadership quality and versatility, capable of operating in defence and midfield attributes many believe could fast-track his progression to the senior team.

Bameyi featured at the 2023 U20 AFCON in Egypt before leading the Flying Eagles to an impressive run at the World Cup.

All eyes will now be on his progress as he pushes toward a potential Super Eagles debut in 2026.
