Flying Eagles Will Resume Camping When Eaglets Leave For AFCON
By Niyi Busari
The Flying Eagles will not resume camping unless the Golden Eaglets leave Abuja for their European tour of Germany this weekend, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The two times World Cup finalists will compete at the FIFA U20 World Cup which commence 20th May and with few weeks to finals, the team is yet to start preparations for the mundial.
The Golden Eaglets who returned to camp after February general election will this weekend travel to Germany for their European tour ahead of the CAF U17 African Nations Cup in Algeria.
A top official from Sunday Dankaro House, Abuja who was worried about how the NFF runs football affairs without fear of failure revealed to BSN Sports that the two U20 national teams (Falconets and Flying Eagles) who have two different international competitions will not resume camping until next week.
"Flying Eagles who will participate at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina in May will resume after Golden Eaglets leave Abuja for Germany." The official who pleaded anonymity told BSN Sports.
"I am worried because the NFF don't have the fear for failure again. I mean, how can a team spend few days in camp in preparation for the FIFA World Cup while other countries that Nigeria will compete with are on different training tours? And you want them to perform excellently well at the mundial? And if they fail to perform, the coach will be sacked without sacking themselves. Nigeria football can't grow this way. He added.
The most successful country at the FIFA U20 World Cup tournament, Argentina has been announced as the host of this year's event.
The draw will take place on 21st April in Zurich. The tournament according to the original schedule by FIFA will commence on 20th May to 11th June, 2023
The 24 nations that qualify to the 2023 tournament will be drawn into six groups of four teams. The top two finishers in each group advance to the knockout stage, together with the four third-place teams with the most points. The Round of 16 kicks off a single-elimination bracket through to the final, much like the senior men's World Cup format.
