The former club of Super Eagles defenders Chidozie Awaziem and Bruno Onyeamaechi, Boavista FC, has ceased operations, bringing an end to one of Portugal's most historic football institutions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Portuguese club, founded 123 years ago, has reportedly shut down all football operations, marking a sad chapter in the country's football history.

Boavista remains one of only five clubs to have won the Portuguese top-flight title, having famously ended the dominance of the country's traditional giants by lifting the Primeira Liga trophy during the 2000/01 season.

The club also served as home to Nigerian internationals Chidozie Awaziem and Bruno Onyeamaechi during their careers, with both players representing the Porto-based side before moving on to new challenges.
