Former Flying Eagles striker John Owoeri has continued his football journey in Asia after completing the 2025/26 season with Thai Division 3 side Funtera United, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The 39-year-old recently signed a one-year contract with Bhutanese club Thimphu FC, marking the latest chapter in a career that has taken him across several countries.
Owoeri was a member of Nigeria's Flying Eagles squad that finished runners-up at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in the Netherlands.
The Nigerian side lost to Argentina in the final but produced several stars who later enjoyed successful professional careers.
During the tournament, Owoeri shared the dressing room with notable players such as John Obi Mikel and Chinedu Obasi, who both went on to establish themselves at the highest level of the game.
Despite approaching his 40th birthday, Owoeri remains active in professional football and will now look to make an impact with Thimphu FC in the Bhutan Premier League after his spell in Thailand.
