Former Sports Minister Authors Book Highlighting Tinubu's Reform Initiatives

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has presented a copy of his newly published book, One Thousand and Ninety-Five Days... and Counting: Communicating the Strides of a Reformer-in-Chief, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Dare shared the development on his official Facebook page on Friday, describing the presentation as a privilege and stating that the book documents what he described as the President's reform efforts over a three-year period.

According to the former minister, the publication chronicles key policy interventions and structural reforms implemented under President Tinubu's administration, which he said have set Nigeria on a path toward economic recovery and national transformation.

Sharing excerpts from the book, Dare, the Special Adviser To the President on Communication and Publicity, described President Tinubu as "the Reformer-in-Chief" and "the architect of democratic survival and political reinvention." He also referred to the President as "the Houdini of political and economic survival," saying Tinubu had consistently overcome political challenges that were intended to undermine his leadership.

In another excerpt, Dare acknowledged that the administration's reform agenda has sparked widespread public debate while maintaining that the policies represent bold decisions that previous governments were either reluctant to implement or introduced only gradually.

«"Over the course of these one thousand and ninety-five days, Nigerians have witnessed an administration pursuing structural reforms that previous governments either hesitated to confront or approached incrementally. These reforms have generated understandable anxieties and legitimate public debate," the book states.»

The book comes amid ongoing national discussions over major economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, including the removal of the fuel subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange market, tax reform proposals, and efforts to attract investment and stabilize the economy. While the government says the reforms are necessary to achieve long-term economic growth, many Nigerians have expressed concerns about the rising cost of living and inflation associated with the transition.

Sunday Dare served as Nigeria's Minister of Youth and Sports Development from 2019 to 2023 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. During his tenure, he oversaw several sports development initiatives, athlete welfare programmes, and Nigeria's participation in major international sporting competitions.

The presentation of the book underscores Dare's continued engagement in public policy and political communication, offering his perspective on the Tinubu administration's reform agenda and its impact on Nigeria's governance and economic landscape.
