By Admin
Former Nigeria international and long-serving goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has confirmed his retirement from professional football and plans to mark the milestone with a novelty match in his honour.
Aiyenugba disclosed his decision to Abdul Momoh, CEO of Flash Media, stating that the commemorative event will take place at the Kwara State Stadium. According to the former Bnei Yehuda goalkeeper, invitations will be extended to prominent footballers and stakeholders from around the world.
One of the highlights of the planned celebration, Aiyenugba revealed, will be the symbolic moment of sharing the pitch with his son.
“It will be a dream come true to see my son and I at the goal posts facing each other as I hand over the mantle to him,” he said.
Aiyenugba enjoyed a distinguished career that spanned Nigeria and Israel. He won back-to-back CAF Champions League titles with Enyimba in 2003 and 2004, as well as four Nigeria Premier League championships with the Aba giants. After spending 13 seasons in Israel with four different clubs, he returned to Nigeria in 2020 to join Kwara United, where he played until his retirement.
