Four Nigerian Weightlifters To Receive $20,000 Training Grants Ahead Of World Championship, Others

The National Sports Commission, NSC, has revealed that four Nigerian Weightlifters will receive a training grants of $20,000 from the commission, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a statement by the Director of Information and PR, Mrs Kehinde Ajayi said the recipients have been classed in Category A of elite athletes after a superlative performance at the just concluded 2025 African Senior Weightlifting Championship in Mauritius.

The statement further disclosed that aside from the monetary incentives for the athletes, the grants are to enable them to prepare for the World Championship, Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.

Recall that the contingent delivered a dominant showing, finishing their campaign with an impressive 18 medals — 13 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze — solidifying Nigeria’s reputation as a leading force in African weightlifting.
