By Gbenga Gboyega

FC Omonia clinched the Cypriot Cup title against AEL Limassol on Wednesday, as Francis Uzoho bagged his first title with the team since joining in the 2021 summer transfer window for free.

Omonia joined the competition in the second round in December 2022, defeating Karmiotissa 2-1 to secure progress into the knockout stages.

Although Omonia fell short in the first leg of the quarterfinals, losing 1-2 in front of home fans to APOEL FC, before a clean sheet by Uzoho in the return leg away from home secured progress into the final four, with a 3-2 score on aggregate.

A 1-all draw in the semifinal first leg, followed by a 3-1 score in the second was enough for Omonia to secure the final ticket at the detriment of Pafos FC.

Uzoho kept his second clean sheet of the tournament in the final as The Clovers took the day via a slim 1-0 win over AEL Limassol at the GSP Stadium in Strovolos, Cyprus.

Uzoho conceded five goals in six games in the competition, and was impressive between the sticks, leading to his team's 16th Cypriot Cup and his first silverware in Cyprus.
