Fulham Manager Explains Bassey, Iwobi Bench Role Against Wolves

Fulham FC manager Marco Silva has clarified why Nigerian duo Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi started on the bench in their Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Both players have been regular starters this season, making their omission from the starting lineup on Tuesday a surprising decision.

However, Silva explained that the move was part of his strategy to introduce fresh legs after their underwhelming performance in the previous match.

“We knew we were going to need some fresh legs,” Silva told Fulham’s official website.

 “Saturday’s game was a tough one for us, and our performance wasn’t at the level we wanted. I knew coming here, we needed players who were physically ready to handle the game’s demands.”

He further elaborated: “Some players, like Alex Iwobi, Robinson, and Calvin [Bassey], have accumulated the most minutes for our team. That factored into our decision to rotate.”

Iwobi has been one of Fulham’s standout performers this season, while Bassey has become a key figure in the Cottagers’ defence since his move from Ajax.
