Full List Of Six NPFL Players Chelle Considers for Unity Cup Squad
By Our Reporter
Super Eagles are preparing to defend their Unity Cup title in London next month, with head coach Eric Chelle considering a stronger inclusion of home-based players in his squad, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria will compete against Jamaica national football team, Zimbabwe national football team, and India national football team in the invitational tournament. The Super Eagles claimed the 2025 edition after defeating Jamaica on penalties in the final.
With European leagues concluding shortly before the competition, Chelle is expected to rely more on players from the Nigeria Premier Football League. Reports indicate that as many as six NPFL players could be included in the squad as part of efforts to broaden the team’s depth.
Among those under consideration is Joseph Arumala of Ikorodu City, who has scored 12 goals this season and is among the leading contenders for the league’s Golden Boot.
Other NPFL players linked with potential call-ups include Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United, Daddy Abdulrahman of El-Kanemi Warriors, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi and Godwin Obaje of Enugu Rangers, Sodiq Ismail of Remo Stars, and Daniel Mustapha of Niger Tornadoes.
Notably, players from Rivers United have not featured prominently in the reported shortlist, raising questions about their absence despite the club’s domestic competitiveness.
Chelle has been closely monitoring NPFL talents as part of his broader preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), where home-based players form the core of the squad. The Unity Cup is therefore expected to provide a valuable platform to assess these players at international level ahead of future competitions.
