GFA Appoints Björkegren As New Head Coach Of Black Queens

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced Kim Lars Björkegren as the new head coach of the Black Queens, the national women's football team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Björkegren, a highly experienced coach with nearly 20 years in the game, succeeds Nora Nuptle, whose contract with the GFA ended in December 2024.

The GFA announced on Tuesday, January 14, confirming Björkegren’s appointment as the new leader of the team.

Björkegren’s football career began as a player at his hometown club in Ljungsbro, Sweden, before joining Allsvenska side Atvidabergs FF.

However, an injury at age 22 forced him to retire early from playing, prompting a shift to coaching—a path that has shaped his career.

Holding a UEFA A coaching license, Björkegren boasts a successful coaching career that spans both domestic and international levels.

Among his achievements are winning a league title with Apollon Ladies in Cyprus and securing the Damallsvenskan championship with Linköpings FC in Sweden.

His outstanding work during the 2020-2021 season earned him the Coach of the Year award in Cyprus.
