Gabonese Government Suspends Federation Election, FIFA Sanctions Loom

The government of Gabon has suspended the presidential election into the Gabonese Football Federation over alleged irregularities, raising fears of possible sanctions from FIFA, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Authorities announced the decision following concerns about the transparency and integrity of the electoral process, stating that the move was necessary to ensure compliance with established statutes.

The development has sparked fresh concerns within the football community, particularly given past incidents involving the Central African nation. In 2013, 

FIFA suspended Gabon after allegations that the federation’s statutes were altered shortly before an election. A similar situation reportedly occurred again last year within FEGAFOOT.

With FIFA maintaining a strict stance against government interference in football administration, the latest intervention by the Gabonese authorities could prompt disciplinary action from the global body if deemed a breach of its regulations.
