Former Nigerian international Garba Lawal has praised Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle for integrating new players into the national team setup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chelle recently handed invitations to fresh faces including Emmanuel Fernandez, Yira Sor, and Philip Otele for the international friendlies against Iran and Jordan.

Reacting to the development, Lawal commended the Malian tactician for using the opportunity to build towards the future, particularly with the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in view.

According to Lawal, the decision to introduce new players is a step in the right direction, especially as the team shifts focus away from World Cup qualification.

“The coach decided to bring new faces into the team, which is good. We aren’t going to the World Cup; we are just preparing for next year’s AFCON,” Lawal stated.

He further emphasized the importance of the friendly matches, noting that they provide a valuable platform to assess players and strengthen the squad.

“Those friendlies are quality matches; you can’t underestimate them. There are no easy matches,” he added.

The Super Eagles are expected to use the upcoming fixtures to fine-tune their squad as preparations intensify for the AFCON qualifiers.
