Former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida has expressed support for the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja for its decision to initiate an annual International Golf Classic, called the "IBB Classic," to be held annually, reports BSNSports.com.ng.
General Babangida spoke to the Executive Members of the Club, led by its Captain, Ibrahim Babayo, at his hilltop residence in Minna, the capital of Niger State.
The former Nigerian leader praised the club for enhancing the country's reputation and believed that an international meeting would further raise the country's global profile.
Captain of the Club, Ibrahim Babayo had earlier briefed General Babangida on the efforts of his Executive to add the new programme, 'IBB International Golf Classic Competition' to the Club's calendar.
"We have to come to our father, the father of the Club, the life patron of IBB International Golf and Country Club and we have also come to inform him of the annual IBB classic that will be done every August which will be a Pro-Am and of International status.
The reason for this is to showcase the beauty of our course and bring more professional golfers around the world to Nigeria.
Golf has become a big earner while some countries are also using Golf as part of their foreign policy." Babayo said.
The former Military President was honoured as the life patron of the club founded by him in 1991. He was presented with club souvenirs as a mark of respect for his contributions to the prestigious club.
Ibrahim Babayo was accompanied on the trip by some of the Executive members, Club's Resident Pro as well as Club Manager.
