German-born Forward Welcomes Nigeria Approach Amid Growing International Interest

Werder Bremen forward Justin Njinmah has indicated his openness to representing Nigeria at international level following renewed interest from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 25-year-old, born in Germany to a Nigerian father, remains eligible to play for either country and has yet to feature for Germany or Nigeria at any level. That flexibility has positioned the Super Eagles as strong contenders for his international allegiance.

According to a Brentford supporters account on X (@BRE_remy), Njinmah described the NFF’s outreach as motivating and expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of wearing Nigeria’s green and white colours.

Njinmah has emerged as one of Werder Bremen’s standout performers this season, registering four goals in 17 league appearances under head coach Horst Steffen. Capable of operating across the frontline, his pace and direct style have attracted attention beyond the Bundesliga. During the January transfer window, SSC Napoli were reportedly interested in securing his services, though Bremen opted against sanctioning a move.

Support for his potential switch has also come from within the Bremen dressing room. Teammate Felix Agu, who previously represented Germany at Under-21 level before committing to Nigeria, publicly encouraged Njinmah last year. After making his Super Eagles debut at the Unity Cup in London, Agu responded playfully to Njinmah’s social media message with the words: “u next!!”

Ndidi Returns After Bereavement

Elsewhere, Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has returned to training with Beşiktaş J.K. following a period of bereavement.

Ndidi travelled to Nigeria after the death of his father, a retired soldier, who was involved in a fatal car accident near Umunede in Delta State. He was laid to rest in Agbor last Friday.

The midfielder is now back with the Istanbul club and could be available for Sunday’s Turkish Süper Lig fixture against Göztepe S.K.. Ndidi missed Beşiktaş’s 3-2 away victory over İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. last weekend but is expected to strengthen the squad as they continue their push up the table.

He has made 16 league appearances this season, scoring once, with Beşiktaş currently fifth on 40 points from 22 matches — just one point behind fourth-placed Göztepe, setting up a closely contested encounter.
