Ghana Laryea Selected for CAF Interclub Quarter-Finals Training in Cairo

Ghanaian FIFA referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea has been selected among Africa’s elite match officials to participate in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Interclub Quarter-Finals Preparation Course scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from March 4 to 8, 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The course, designed to prepare referees for the decisive stages of CAF’s interclub competitions, will see Laryea undergo training in his dual capacity as both a FIFA center referee and a FIFA Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

A FIFA-listed referee since 2014, Laryea is widely regarded as one of the continent’s most experienced officials. He began his top-flight refereeing career in 2012 at the age of 24, making his Ghana Premier League debut in a fixture between Medeama SC and Berekum Chelsea. Two years later, he earned his FIFA badge, opening the door to international assignments.

Over the years, Laryea has officiated at several major continental tournaments, including WAFU competitions, the African Nations Championship (CHAN), CAF interclub competitions, the CAF Women’s Champions League, and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He has also served as an Assistant Video Assistant Referee (AVAR) in various CAF competitions, notably in the Women’s Champions League.

On the domestic front, Laryea most recently took charge of Ghana’s high-profile “Super Clash” between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where Hearts of Oak secured a 1–0 victory.

Internationally, he further enhanced his reputation at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he officiated several key fixtures, including the high-stakes semifinal between hosts Morocco and Nigeria.

His selection for the Cairo training programme underscores his continued prominence within African refereeing circles and positions him for potential appointments in the critical knockout stages of CAF’s interclub competitions.
