Ghana Thrash Benin Republic In WAFU B Girls U20 Opener

The Black Princesses got off to an impressive start in the WAFU U-20 Girls tournament at the Baba Yara Stadium on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic U20 girls.

Benin struggled to match their Ghanaian counterparts in all areas of the pitch.

Ghana had an early chance from a free kick in the seventh minute, but Stella Nyamekye’s shot was saved by the Benin goalkeeper.

Maafia Nyame broke the deadlock in the 35th minute after sustained pressure from Ghana in Benin’s half.

Stella Nyamekye made another attempt to extend Ghana’s lead in the 40th minute, but her effort was saved.

In the second half, the Black Princesses continued their attacking approach and came close to being rewarded in the 58th minute when Helen Alormenu headed over from a beautiful pass by Wasima.

Mary Amponsah, who caused numerous problems for the Benin defense, extended Ghana’s lead in the 61st minute. Stella Nyamekye then made it 3-0 in the 68th minute with a free kick from the edge of the box, sealing a resounding victory for Ghana.
