Glasgow 2026: Nigeria Set For Historic Debut In Basketball 3×3

Nigeria has been officially confirmed as one of the countries that will compete in the men’s 3×3 basketball event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, marking the nation’s first-ever appearance in the fast-rising format at the Games, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The confirmation came on Tuesday after Commonwealth Sport released the list of qualified nations for the basketball events, which will take place at the Scottish Event Campus from July 24 to 29, 2026.

Nigeria is listed among the debutants in the men’s competition, alongside Guyana and Malaysia, while Uganda will make its maiden appearance in the women’s category.

Basketball 3×3 is played between two teams of three players on a single hoop, with a 12-second shot clock designed to maintain high tempo and constant action.

Games last 10 minutes or end earlier if a team reaches 21 points, delivering a fast-paced, high-energy spectacle that highlights speed, skill, and athleticism.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will run from July 23 to August 2, featuring 10 sports across four major venues in Glasgow: Scotstoun Stadium, the Scottish Event Campus, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Arena, and the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
