Gold Cup 2026: Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos, Sunshine Stars Record Wins as Grassrunners Shock Stormers

Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos and Sunshine Stars recorded victories on MatchDay 2 of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup, while Grassrunners FC produced one of the biggest surprises of the day with a narrow win over Stormers SC.

Inter Lagos set the tone for the day with a 2-0 victory over Abakaliki FC at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.

The first half produced little in the way of attacking excitement, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. Inter Lagos failed to capitalise on their half-chances, while Abakaliki FC, also known as De Rice Boys, found it difficult to penetrate their opponents' defence.

Inter Lagos, however, stepped up the tempo after the restart and were rewarded for their dominance when Monday Emmanuel broke the deadlock in the 51st minute.

The forward completed his brace in the 72nd minute to seal a comfortable victory for Inter Lagos.

In the second fixture, Ikorodu City bounced back from their 1-1 draw with Inter Lagos on MatchDay 1 with an emphatic 3-0 win over Dokkal Khairu FC.

The Oga Boys opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Moses Ali, who registered Ikorodu City's second goal of the tournament.

Shola Bada doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute before Ikechukwu Junior completed the scoring six minutes from full time to hand Ikorodu City their first victory of the competition.

It was another disappointing outing for Stormers SC and Doma United, with both sides suffering their second consecutive defeats of the tournament.

Grassrunners FC moved to the top of the standings with six points after edging Stormers SC 1-0.

Ogunrombi Boris scored the decisive goal in the 39th minute, tapping home to secure a second victory for the Nationwide League One (NLO) side in the 14th edition of the Gold Cup.

Doma United, meanwhile, were punished for failing to convert their opportunities as they fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Abass Yakubu broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 71st minute before Gabriel Adepoju doubled the advantage six minutes later to seal the victory.

With MatchDay 2 now concluded, attention turns to Saturday's MatchDay 3 fixtures, with several teams looking to strengthen their positions in the race for the Gold Cup title.
