Golf: Adebayo Wins Maiden EGGA Alumni Championship

It was a dream come true for handicap 21 golfer, Adebayo Adelakun who despite facing other experience amateur golfers emerged as the winner of the first Elite Global Golf Academy Alumni Championship held at IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

 Organised by the Elite Global Golf Academy, Adebayo Adelakun netted 68 to outplay over 120 golfers who took part in the 18-holes championship. 

Handicap 23 Amateur golfer, J.W Choi grossed 95 after netting 72 to emerge Best Nett in the EGGA men while Akindoju won the runner-up.

T. Kate won the Best EGGA Ladies with 71 nett on countback while E. Thompson who scored the same result was adjudged the first runner-up, and A.S Akpan was in the second runner-up position. 

Past Lady Captain, Grace Ihonvbere shot 215 metres in the longest drive for ladies while Akinpade won the longest drive for Men.

In his winner's speech, Adelakun thanked the organisers and sponsors of the competition for a job well done. 

He said he trained so hard for the event and with determination and hard work, he did not expect anything less. He however warned that he will pose better results in the next edition.

The former Nigerian first lady golf professional, Uloma Mbuko Ogbuokiri who established the academy said the purpose of the 18 holes championship was to bring the academy alumni together as a way of rating them on what they learnt during their sojourn in the golf school. The South African-trained Golf Instructor said bringing the Academy Alumni together will also help in the area of development of the game.

The Chairman, of Elite Global Golf Academy, Dr Elijah Ogbuokiri was of opinion that the championship will further open more competitions among the alumni.

Over 100 Amateur Golfers including the club captain, Mike Ekoja and Lady Captain, Joy Ikwue participated in the one-day event.
