Golf: Winning Ladies Open Championship Excites Evelyn Oyome

   It was jubilation galore for a member of Ikoyi Golf Club, Evelyn Oyome who was adjudged Best gross player at the 3-day IBB International Golf and Country Club 24th Ladies open championship held in Abuja.

Oyome, an handicap 9 golfer, who said she has set her sight on winning more medal on the golf tour, outclassed over 160 players, scoring 247 gross, 11 strokes better than her arch-rival, Ugandan Evah Magala. 

  " l actually won this open twice in the past and I was not hoping to win again because I just felt that we have younger ones coming up but I came, I saw and I conquered". Evelyn boasted.

  " l couldn't played during the Ikoyi open due to sickness. Infact I had operation during that time. Ugandan came and went away with the converted trophy. But am happy that we have let them know that we have good and talented amateur golfers in Nigeria ". She said

Ugandan Evah Magala who grossed 258 was second, followed by another Ugandan, Gloria Mbaguta with 262 scores to claim third position. 

 " Quite excited game but am not excited because I came to win number one, not number two, but am happy that it ended like this and am excited about it". Evah said.

 The 4th place gross went to an Ibori club golfer, Rita Izoje as Susan Markus of TYB Golf Club occupied the 5th place.

  Lady Captain, IBB international Golf and Country Club, Joy Ikwue who said the ladies section organised the event to have more ladies participating in the game of Golf, called for more women competitions to ensure healthy interaction among the women.

  " we had lot of activities, we are able to encourage the young ones to see Golf as a good sport. The attendance for this year's edition was encouraging as we have participants from Uganda, Botswana, Ghana and all Golf Clubs across Nigeria". Joy stated.

 The tournament also featured Sponsors, veterans and super veterans categories. 

It will be recalled the event started last Thursday with the ceremonial tee off performed by the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, assisted by President, Nigeria Golf Federation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Chairman, NPFL Interim Management Committee, Gbenga Elegbeleye and host of others.
