Gombe Utd Holds Insurance, As Abia Warriors Relegate Dakkada FC To NNL
By Gbenga Gboyega
Gombe United held Group A table-toppers Bendel Insurance to a drab draw in Gombe, as Rangers and Abia Warriors sank Wikki Tourists and Dakkada FC 3-0 respectively to round off MatchDay 16 in style across eight centers.
Abia Warriors hold on to the top three spots in Group B, for the main time, with a massive win over struggling Dakkada FC, who alongside Wikki Tourists are rooted bottom of Group B. Rivers United is in 4th position and have three games in hand and are only one point shy off the top three.
Bello Lukman bagged a two-minute brace in the second half for Abia Warriors, after Megwo opened the scoring as early as the second minute in the first half, giving the home team an edge for now.
The same occurred in Awka where Rangers downed 10th-place Wikki Tourists three goals to nothing, following goals in both halves of the game, to extend their difference in points from the Group B relegation zone.
El-Kanemi Warriors pose as the worst team in the league, with the least number of goals scored (8), and the next-to-worst number of goals conceded (24), to Dakkada's 25 tallies. And 2nd-placed Enyimba did well to earn maximum points over the Maiduguri-based team.
The result in Umuahia means Dakkada FC has been officially relegated from the Nigerian top-flight league, and will be playing in the NNL next season.
The Chosen Ones as they're fondly called, gained promotion to the NPFL in 2019.
More results from the NPFL saw Bayelsa United overcome Sunshine Stars two goals to one in front of home fans, while Kwara and Plateau shared the spoils in Akure.
Lobi Stars defeated Niger Tornadoes through a 48th-minute strike from Francis Odinaka, and Remo Stars maintained the top three spots in Group A following a win against Akwa United.
