Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has thrown his weight behind grassroots women’s football development with a ₦1 million cash donation to the 2025 HerGame Girls Tournament in Abuja.

The tournament, organized by the HerGame Foundation, serves as a platform for discovering, nurturing, and promoting the next generation of female football talents. This year’s edition marked significant growth, expanding from an Abuja-only event to a regional competition featuring 16 teams from across the North Central zone.

Hon. Amadu, represented by his media aide, Niyi Busari, reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting grassroots women’s sports. He praised the initiative’s vision and assured organizers of sustained institutional backing.

“This ₦1 million donation is to support and encourage the founder and sole sponsor of this tournament,” he said. “We are working on securing further financial support from the National Assembly, which will be released within a week. We also promise continuous support for future grassroots women’s competitions. However, we encourage the organizers to scale up and make this a national event rather than a regional one.”

Founder of the HerGame Foundation and sole sponsor of the competition, Dr. Pat Ajuma Ayegba, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture and for the presence of Hon. Amadu at the final and closing ceremony.

“I am overwhelmed by the financial, moral, and physical support I received from the National Assembly,” she said. “My profound gratitude goes to Hon. Kabiru Amadu for attending the final match, supporting the tournament with ₦1 million, and promising to help us host an even more elaborate national women’s grassroots football event next year.”

Meanwhile, Horvel Angels clinched the 2025 HerGame Girls Tournament title, defeating defending champions Fosla Academy 2–0 in a dominant final played at the Area 3 Sports Complex, Abuja.
