The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has announced plans for two major competitions in 2026 as part of efforts to boost the development and popularity of handball across the country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to the federation, the Handball Premier League will take place in Abuja in August, while the 4×4 Handball Championship is scheduled to hold in Makurdi, Benue State.

HFN also confirmed that the North-Central Handball Championship will be staged in Lafia, Nasarawa State, from July 12 to 18, adding another key event to what is shaping up to be a busy domestic calendar.

The federation said the competitions are expected to attract clubs, players, officials, and handball enthusiasts from different parts of the country as it continues its drive to expand the reach of the sport beyond its traditional strongholds.

Organisers believe the tournaments will provide a platform for talent discovery, improve competition among clubs, and further promote handball development nationwide.
