Nigeria’s U-18 women’s handball team returned home on Monday after competing at the 2025 Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship in Oran, Algeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The John Uzor-led side ended their campaign on a winning note, edging hosts Algeria 29-28 in their final game.

However, the victory was not enough to salvage qualification, as the team had already missed out on a semi-final spot.

Nigeria also failed to secure a ticket for the IHF Trophy, with Guinea claiming the slot after finishing fourth overall.

The West Africans finished third in Group A with five points, behind Tunisia and Angola, who collected 10 and 8 points, respectively.

Despite the setback, Nigeria wrapped up the competition in fifth place, thanks to its spirited win against the Algerians.
