Handball League Begins On Wednesday In Lagos

The Phase two of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024 matches will commence on Wednesday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute of Sports, Surulere Lagos and the Rowe Park Sports Center, Yaba, Lagos.

The second half of the top tier handball league in the country proudly sponsored by Ardova PLC will be starting tomorrow through to the 8th of December 2024 wherein the winners of the league will be unveiled. This follows the conclusion of the first phase of the league which was held in Benin City, Edo State earlier in the year.

All the teams (12 male and 10 female) participating in the top tier premier league are already in Lagos ahead of the commencement of the matches and are looking forward to continuing the hostilities which they left off from the first phase in Benin City.

There will be a technical meeting of all of the team officials, Coaches, Referees and Delegates at the Rowe Park Sports Center, as announced by the Secretary General of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Almu Umar Lambu in a statement wherein the rules of the league will be reiterated amongst other important discussions.

"It is important that all the team coaches and officials must attend the technical committee as we would discuss the rules of the league which will be in line with the CAHB and IHF statutes." Mr. Lambu said.

Men category leaders Tojemarine Academy will hope to continue their lead in the second phase against seventh place Corrections Boys. 

Tojemarine are leading the pack with 33 points; four points above second place Rima Strikers who will begin their phase 2 campaign against De Defenders 

Niger United will hope they can salvage their defence of the league in the second phase against Sunshine Kings who are 10th on the log.

Other matches in the men category will see, Adamawa Warriors play Confluence Stars while Lagos Seasider Boys will slug it out against three times champion Kano Pillars.

Former champion Safety Shooters will play Benue Buffaloes.

Defending champion Safety Babes, who are unbeaten in over two years and lead the women category league with 27 points will begin their second phase campaign against sixth placed Rivers Queens while Defender Babes who are second on the league log with 23 points play fourth place Rima Queens.

Other matches in the women category, will see rock bottom Bendel Dynamos begin their phase 2 campaign in a relegation battle against Delta Queens while 7th place Seasider Babes COAS babes who are 8th on the log.

Former champion Plateau Peacocks in 5th place will play experienced Imo Grasshoppers who are presently 3rd on the table.

Matches will start bright and early on Wednesday at 7am and all matches will be streamed live on HFN TV on Facebook and the YouTube page of the Handball Federation of Nigeria while live updates will be on @Handballnigeria on X and Instagram pages, and @handballinigeriaofficial on tiktok.

The second phase in Lagos will see the winners of the league in the men and women categories crowned champions with Tojemarine Academy and Safety on top of the league tables with 33 and 27 points respectively.
