Handball Premiership: Mixed Fortunes For Hosts Teams; as Kano Pillars, Safety Shooters Dominate

Day-2 of the phase one of the Ardova Handball Premier League, on Monday, was characterized by a mixed-bag of results for the men's and women's teams of the tournament host, Edo State.

Although both sides are christened Bendel Dynamos; it was the women's team that gave their teaming supporters something to cheer, when beating Delta Queens of Asaba 28-23.

Conversely, the men's team capitulated to a 26-30 defeat, handed them by reigning champions, Kano Pillars at the indoor sports hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City.

In other men's fixtures decided on Day-2, former champions FRSC Safety Shooters of Abuja made it two wins in as many games, when beating Rima Strikers of Sokoto 24-20.

Another former champions, Niger United of Minna trounced Benue Buffaloes 29-20; while Confluence Stars of Lokoja lost 21-25 to Lagos Seasiders.

Elsewhere, Police Machine outscored Correctional Boys from Abuja by 31-26 goals; while the NSCDC's De Defenders shockingly lost 18-33 to the youngsters of Tojemarine HA Lagos.

Meanwhile, the Defender Babes restored some pride to the Civil Defense, by triumphing 31-26 over Plateau Peacocks of Jos.

Former multiple winners, and defending champions of the tournament, FRSC Safety Babes of Abuja, stormed to a convincing 47-27 trouncing of Bayelsa Queens.

In other games played, Seasider Babes of Lagos fell 25-33 by Rima Queens of Sokoto; while Imo Grasshoppers triumphed 21-17 over Benue Queens of Makurdi.
