Former Nigeria National League (NNL) and current Nigeria Premier League (NPL) duo - Sporting FC of Lagos and Katsina United both defeated Remo Stars and Enyimba International respectively at the ongoing pre-season championship taking center stage at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, stadium in Lagos.
The Championship, especially the Southwestern Derby clash between Sporting Lagos and Remo Stars of Ikenne gave the Lagos fans a taste of regional rivalry to expect more when the 2023-24 Nigeria Premier League season commences.
Sporting FC earlier in the day shocked Remo Stars to a 2-1 win through Frank Muawena and Chiemeka Nwoke scoring for the Lagos-based club in both halves, with Remo Stars' Saturday Okon reducing the deficit to 1.
While Katsina United defeated reigning League champions Enyimba International, as the latter struggled to muster a win from their three games played, losing twice and drawing once.
Enyimba consequently lost out of progressing further in the championship, with Remo Stars in the third position hoping for relief from the slum of either Katsina or Sporting when both teams meet for their third game.
