With the final round of qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching its conclusion, more nations are securing their places in the expanded 48-team tournament. 

The latest teams to confirm qualification are Germany and the Netherlands, bringing the total number of confirmed participants to 34.

This figure includes the three host nations the United States, Canada and Mexico as well as 31 teams that have progressed through their respective qualifying campaigns.

That leaves eight direct qualification slots still available.

Five of these will be decided in UEFA qualifying, where the remaining group winners are yet to be determined. They will emerge from:

Group B: featuring Switzerland

Group C: including Denmark and Scotland

Group E: with Spain and Turkey

Group H: including Austria and Bosnia-Herzegovina

Group J: featuring Belgium

The final three automatic places will be determined through CONCACAF qualifying.

Alongside the confirmed qualifiers, several nations have already secured passage to the World Cup play-offs, which will include a series of intercontinental and regional knockout matches to determine the remaining six spots.
