Hugo Broos Confirms Decision To Step Down As South Africa Coach
Sampson Adedeji
South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has confirmed that he will step down from his role as Bafana Bafana manager, insisting his decision to retire from coaching is final, BSNSports.com.ng reports. The experienced Belgian tactician revealed that he has no plans to continue in management after his current spell with the South African national team.
"Will I continue as a coach after all? No, it is irreversible! If they need me for something else, perhaps in scouting: that is something else. But football is no longer going to be a part of my life 24 hours a day," Broos said.
Although he is ending his coaching career, Broos suggested he could still remain involved in football in a different capacity, such as scouting.
The veteran coach bows out after guiding Bafana Bafana to the knockout stage of the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
South Africa's impressive campaign came to an end in the Round of 32 following a defeat to Canada.
Broos' departure marks the end of a notable spell with South Africa, during which he helped restore the team's competitiveness on the continental and global stage.
