I’m More Nigerian Than German – Okoye

Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has explained the reason behind his decision to represent Nigeria over Germany at international level, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The shot-stopper, who was born in Germany to a Nigerian father, opted to pledge his international future to Nigeria despite spending his formative years in Europe.

Speaking on his background and identity, Okoye stated that his strong Nigerian upbringing played a key role in his decision.

“I grew up in Germany, but my father was very, very present in my life, especially in my young and early ages. 

"So, I keep a lot of Nigerian inside of me, and I’m very proud of it,” he said.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper added that representing Nigeria was always his dream.

“I always knew I wanted to play for Nigeria,” he concluded.
