ICC U19 World Cup Qualifier: Nigeria Fall To Uganda

By Akanimo Kufre

The Junior Yellow Greens again failed to live up to expectations as they were trumped by Uganda with 30 runs defeat.

Nigeria fielded first and was able to restrict the Ugandan score to 69 runs all out in 28.0 overs. However, Nigeria made a very poor chase as none of the batters could establish authority on the crease.

Nigeria's anguish ended in the 18th over with 39 runs all out. At 5.3 overs, Nigeria scored only 10 runs and lost 3 wickets. Nigeria U19 boys' bowling performance was equally poor such that they gave Uganda 25 extra runs against 6 extra balls from the Central Africans.

However, Coach Uthe Ogbimi said all the boys and their handlers should focus on the "next realistic target", winning the next three games to have the lifeline to play in Division 1.
